The wine of the month November
Casa Ermelinda Freitas
2013 Monte Da Baía Reserva
This wine is a deep garnet red colour and has an intense, complex nose with aromas of mild spices, well-matured red fruit and vanilla. On the palate, the attack is lively, rich and aromatic with great concentration and tight tannins. A long, lingering finish.
We would advise you to decant this wine an hour before serving it at a temperature of 16°-18°C.
Information and advice:
Pairs well with:
• Oven-roasted suckling pig
• Rib steak cooked with herbs
• Leg of lamb
• Creamy or matured Paiva cheese
The Freitas family, which has owned this estate since 1920, has always used local grape varieties to make its wines. Due to the untimely death of the men in the family, Ermelinda Freitas had to take the estate over and it was her daughter Leonor Freitas who then introduced essential improvements. Since 1997, the vineyard has been producing great wines which focus in particular on the Castelão variety from the “Península de Setúbal”. We have grown accustomed with Leonor Freitas to enjoying wines full of richness and with this one she steers us towards the fragrant flavours of the Touriga Nacional, Syrah and Castelão grape varieties, used to produce “Monte da Baía Reserva” this month’s find.
